Hello! My name is Christoph, and what you see is my Rossmonster Baja on a 2024 Ford F350, or better – it is the DT Adventure Truck. But let’s step back for a moment and let me share a bit more about myself.
I am in my late-50s and a few years ago I decided that there are more important things in life than working until I am 67 or so. I am a single dad (divorced) living with my son and my dog “Shelby” in the greater San Diego area. My son is at college with about 1-2 years to go. Since I am an empty nester from that perspective, it is just my dog Shelby and myself.
When the real estate market got really crazy in spring of 2022 I decided to sell my house and use the proceeds to buy myself freedom from a mortgage (and from my ex-wife by paying her out). With some of the leftover money sitting in my bank account (hint: do not get divorced in California) I decided to take my personal freedom to the next level.
I had been thinking about long-term travel for quite a while already, but it never seemed doable. Divorcing is expensive, but then a miracle happened and the COVID-driven real estate market put me in a completely different position financially. I also switched jobs and got myself a significant raise. On top of that, my new job allows me to work 100% remotely.
“F*ck it” I thought. The Universe is telling me something here. “Go and just do it! Live life on your own terms”. And so my plans took shape. Life is too short, and I did not want to wake up at 67 and regret what I had NOT done.
In 2022 I got myself a Ford F250 Tremor pickup truck, I ordered a Supertramp Flagship LT truck camper with a delivery date of August 2023, and started planning for a lot of travel. With SpaceX Starlink Internet I can literally work from anywhere in the world.
But it turned out, the Supertramp Flagship LT camper is great for exploring and vacationing, not so much for exploring and working a full-time job from the road. My style of travel is to travel off the beaten path by going off-road as much as possible. So, I decided to sell my highly customized 2022 Ford F250 Tremor and ordered a Rossmonster Baja instead. The Baja is an off-road beast and offers what the Supertramp could not.
I started with some shorter trips to learn what works and what doesn’t. I made a few, carefully selected upgrades to my Rossmonster Baja and extended my travels more and more. 2025 was not a pleasant year from a health perspective, but I still managed to get about 100 nights of remote camping in. In late 2025 I broke my left leg and with healing and recovery under way I am looking forward to a lot more adventures as 2026 progess.
